Many times I think to write on this interesting festival but
never complete this topic ever, but when there is net connection problem arise
in my office I got opportunity to write .There is different festival celebrated
in Kharagpur. One of them is puja, which is basically a south Indian community in
town celebrate. In my childhood, I heard from my parents that only in two or
three area basically celebrate this puja: chatispara, railway quarters area of
new settlement and golebazar area.

Now
this puja celebrate in every parts of town. This puja is basically celebrated
for seven days in each area. On the first day a idol made by turmeric and
worship for seven days. On first evening of puja, idol moved in a particular
colony .This festival also known as Kharagpur carnival. On the last day,
particular colony decorated with flowers lights. Different type of animal dance
and tribal dance troops perform their dance in whole day and collect money at
the end of the day prize distribution function organized by particular area
mandir committee for best dance performance as well as for best light and
decoration. Different bollywood dance and mela organized for entertainment of
people.

People from every corner of the town take part on every colony or area specific puja and carnival. Whole day till mid night songs played in loud speaker. Most interesting part of this carnival is different statue decoration by people. As this festival celebrates in each colony and area of the town but New settlement, Jainnagar, Golebazar railway colony area decoration and lighting were most famous in town. Other than this area: Chatispara, Nalipara (Kharida), MS type, Malancha, development are other parts of the town where this festival organized by the local people.
The main concern in this festival is noise pollution and disturbance created by some antisocial elements. Basically the teenagers and youngsters enjoyed a lot. From last couple of years I am not able to watch this festival due to my busy work schedule ,but still the charm and glory of the festival still persist and increasing day by day.
Anyone who can belong from this town easily knows the importance of this festival. This festival is unique and no one find such carnival festival in west Bengal or any part east India. Basically in the month of April- May this festival organized in different parts of town. The big attraction is the idol made by turmeric and its decoration .It looks amazing. This festival is organized by local colony, but dance and orchestra group from all over Bengal and neighbor state came during this festival.
