It was quite interesting to post on this topic. One of the founder member of Kharagpur my love was belong from same community. On mahavir Jayanti ,Kharagpurmylove going to present Jainism in Kharagpur.Jain religion has two main branch one known as Digambar and one known as Swetamber both branch community people has lived in Kharagpur.I have many friends who are janies. Jain people mainly lived in kharida malancha and Jhapata pur area in Kharagpur. Digambar jain temple located in kharida fatak bazaar area. Digamber jain has two Dharmsala in malancha road one is in kharida and second is near to old milini cinema area.Most of the community people indulge in business .Some new generation also choose engineering and different profession like CA, CS, cost accounting as well as banking.

Jainis are equally participating in every festival in kharagpur. Janis are pure vegetarian so both the jain dharamsala or community hall allowed only for puja and marriage ceremony where non vegetarian dish strictly prohibited. Their fasting is also unique in hindu religion people did fasting by taking only liquid but jennies ladies are doing fasting by drinking boiled water. People take their dinner before sunset. Time to time different jain spiritual leaders and priest came into city.
The moto of this religion is really admirable, “Live and let live”.
There was no specific history about Jainism in kharagpur but this religion was exist here from long time, in Bengal there are many jain temple but in kharagpur there was two only.
