This is very Interesting to know that in Kharagpur, as many languages speak
that was not speak any other part of the country. If we take Kharagpur a
separate part from West Bengal than, the total number of language speak
in kharagpur is more than total language speak in all over west Bengal.
Sometime Kgp also known as mini India due to this feature. Here you can
got language Like:Hindi,Bengoli,Telgu,Urdu,Kannad,Malyalam,Oriya,Chatisgari,Marathi,Bhojpuri,Punjabi,Marwari,Jainy,Gujrati,Tamil,Nepali,Assami,some
regional like: santhali and tribal language of Banstola and Jhargram. I
don’t think that anyone can dare to challenge me that this all language
speaks in any single state or single area. I am also comfortable to
speak in Hindi, Bengoli, Punjabi, Chtisgari and understand Marwari and
Bhojpuri.

Yes, one time this town was famous for Mafia .In 80’s there was also big mafias here. This mafia’s also had gang wars on that time and they fights for railway scrap tender, but all other mafia’s finished when Basapa Ram babu came in .I heard that he started as a subordinate and later take over a gang and become don .But after Late Narayan Choobey’s two sons Manas and Goutam murder, he got life imprisonment. That was the end of mafia in Kharagpur. There are some small gangs still came into existence after Rambabu’s gangs destruction, but the town now safe than before. Yes there are some crimes happen, but that is existing in each town and city.
Let’s again go to the unique features of this town. I heard from my father that during 60’s and 70’s in Deshara. People from many parts of West Bengal and near about state came in bullock cart and lived in New settlement and Ravan maidan area for a week to watch the Ravan dahan festival.
These are the reason why people say Kharagpur as mini India.
