Chhat puja is basically dedicated to God Sun and ancient
godess Chhati Maiya. Sun is the main source
of life in earth, so in this festival people thanks to the god sun and
also wish to fulfill their life with joy and happiness. This festival basically
celebrated in Bihar,Jharkhand and Eastern UP.In the recent time migrant from
these places are also celebrate Chhat in different part of the country as well
as in foreign countries ,where the people from these area lived .In kharagpur I
can watch this festival from my birth .Mandir talab in Kharida is the mainly
used for this puja in past but from some years back many other ponds water
bodies are also used for worship this festival. Other than mandir talab, Jhin
Talab in Bhagwanpur, Jhapatapur and Kansawati River are the main worship area .This
festival celebrate in four days. This festival occurred in sixth day of karthik
month as per Hindu calendar and October last or November starting as per English
calendar.
This festival was came from Rig-Veda era, In Mahabharata also
draupadi, follow the similar ritual. Pandava and draupadi on the advice of Dhaumya,
perform this ritual. It is also believe that chat was started by karna (son of
God Sun) of Mahabharata, who was ruled the Anga desh which is actually the part
of Bhagalpur Bihar, so this festival basically root from Bihar.Kharagpurmylove present you chhat puja in kharagpur and near about area.

This Festival is also the worship of Chhati maiya,also known
as Usha ,who is actually wife of God Sun. In today early morning when I came
back to kharagpur from Kolkata am
watching crowds of people, who are going to ahiritola and babu ghat in Kolkata.
It was 4am in the morning but the crowds in maniktala and bara bazaar area
looks like a day time crowed.
