why people say Kharagpur as mini India

This is very Interesting to know that in Kharagpur, as many languages speak that was not speak any other part of the country. If we take Kharagpur a separate part from West Bengal than, the total number of language speak in kharagpur is more than total language speak in all over west Bengal. Sometime Kgp also known as mini India due to this feature. Here you can got language Like:Hindi,Bengoli,Telgu,Urdu,Kannad,Malyalam,Oriya,Chatisgari,Marathi,Bhojpuri,Punjabi,Marwari,Jainy,Gujrati,Tamil,Nepali,Assami, some regional like: santhali and tribal language of Banstola and Jhargram. I don’t think that anyone can dare to challenge me that this all language speaks in any single state or single area. I am also comfortable to speak in Hindi, Bengoli, Punjabi, Chtisgari and understand Marwari and Bhojpuri.

In whole year there is some festival season in this town due to different religion and different community. Here  pongal, onam, goodfriday, Christmas, Mata puja, Gangaur  puja, Mahabir Jayanti, Guru purnima, Holi, Rath Yatra, Janmasthmi, Ganesh puja, Shivratri, DurgaPuja, KaliPuja, Dipawali, ChatPuja and many more celebrated by different community and religions.

Yes, one time this town was famous for Mafia .In 80’s there was also big mafias here. This mafia’s also had gang wars on that time and they fights for railway scrap tender, but  all other mafia’s finished when Basapa Ram babu came in .I heard  that he started as a subordinate  and later take over a gang and become don .But after Late Narayan Choobey’s two sons Manas and Goutam murder, he got life imprisonment. That was the end of mafia in Kharagpur. There are some small gangs still came into existence after Rambabu’s gangs destruction, but  the town now safe than before. Yes there are some crimes happen, but that is existing in each town and city.

Let’s again go to the unique features of this town. I heard from my father that during 60’s and 70’s in Deshara. People from many parts of West Bengal and near about state came in bullock cart and lived in New settlement and Ravan maidan area for a week to watch the Ravan dahan festival.

These are the reason why people say Kharagpur as mini India.

Many times I think to write on this interesting festival but never complete this topic ever, but when there is net connection problem arise in my office I got opportunity to write .There is different festival celebrated in Kharagpur. One of them is puja, which is basically a south Indian community in town celebrate. In my childhood, I heard from my parents that only in two or three area basically celebrate this puja: chatispara, railway quarters area of new settlement and golebazar area.

People from every corner of the town take part on every colony or area specific puja and carnival. Whole day till mid night songs played in loud speaker. Most interesting part of this carnival is different statue decoration by people. As this festival celebrates in each colony and area of the town but New settlement, Jainnagar, Golebazar railway colony area decoration and lighting were most famous in town. Other than this area: Chatispara, Nalipara (Kharida), MS type, Malancha, development are other parts of the town where this festival organized by the local people.

The main concern in this festival is noise pollution and disturbance created by some antisocial elements. Basically the teenagers and youngsters enjoyed a lot. From last couple of years I am not able to watch this festival due to my busy work schedule ,but still the charm and glory of the festival still persist and increasing day by day.

Anyone who can belong from this town easily knows the importance of this festival. This festival is unique and no one find such carnival festival in west Bengal or any part east India. Basically in the month of April- May this festival organized in different parts of town. The big attraction is the idol made by turmeric and its decoration .It looks amazing. This festival is organized by local colony, but dance and orchestra group from all over Bengal and neighbor state came during this festival.
