Makar sankranti Oonam and Pongal and lohari and Bihu celebrate on same day .In India different state had different way for celebration of these festival. Lohari celebrate in Punjab ,Haryana on the other hand other north Indian state celebrate Makar snakranti on south basically in Andhra and Telangana Pongal celebrate on the other hand Tamilnadu and keral celebrate Oonam. But in Kharagpur only place where each of these festival celebrate on same day by local people .

As kharagpur well known as mini India where every community and religion you can found. Makar celebrate by Bengoli and people belong from U.P. ,Bihar,Jharkhand and other North Indian community .They went to Kansawati river for special bath on this day. People from Andhra organised Boogie on same day where they burning wood. Malyalam and Keralan community are few over here but still they recognised and celebrate as per their own ritual. Pongal celebration mainly organised in railway colony of Newsettlement, golebazaar MS type Mathrakati etc.Loharari also celebrated by sikh community of town.

Main Bengoli attraction of this day was different verities of “Pitha”. These were made from rice grain known as Aarsha which was like sweet cookies second one was traingel shape pitha which prepare with milk and without milk, known as “pur Pitha”.Other than these pathi sapta where steam rice roll cover with sweet(gur).Every items of pithe was yammy. Sikh people also burring wood for lohari and worship same with khoi and ravwri and then distribute this to relative. North Indian people mainly take bath on holy river than they eat curd and flatten rice (chira) with gur.and distribute “til Laddu “ among relative and friends .South Indian people made different dish like bara pongal ,puliarm, biryani and many more .
