Kharagpur Work Shop


 
Kharagpur Workshop was established in 1898 as a little repair workshop of geographical area Nagpur Railway. Kharagpur Workshop has evolved and big over the years to become the biggest maintenance workshop of the Indian Railways. It carries out periodic overhaul of all sorts of B.G. wheeled vehicle viz., Diesel Locomotives, electrical Locomotives, Coaches, every kind of Wagons, electrical Multiple Units (EMUs) and Steam and Diesel Cranes.


 
The Workshop additionally undertakes manufacture of an oversized range of wheeled vehicle parts and spares. Aside from this, Diesel POH look has the facilities for re-winding of traction machines, together with coil producing.  The Supervisors coaching Centre connected to the present Workshop has been given a machine for coaching of locomotive Drivers.

Milestones within the History of Kharagpur Workshop

 

1898   :  Workshop established.

1903   :  POH of Steam Locomotives started.

1917   :  POH of Wagons started.

1963   :  POH of Diesel Locomotives started.

1985   :  POH of Electric Locomotives started.

2004   :  Accredited with ISO 9001:2000 certificate.
